"When Pigs Fly!" and "The Other End of The Leash" are two of the best training books I have ever read. I can't say enough about Pigs Fly. I've used many of the methods talked about with Nola with enormous success.
Lots and lots of free shaping going on in the book. I love free shaping, it tires Nola more than a long walk and she figures thins out for herself.

You'll be steps ahead if you already have a clicker savvy dog.

Google these books (sorry, can't remember author names right now)
The Other End Of The Leash -Patricia B McConnell
The Power of Positive Dog Training -Pat Miller (I think)
Culture Clash
Controll Unleashed (for reactive dogs)
Positive Dog Training for Dumbies (or maybe it's idiots guide)
For The Love of a dog -Patrica B McConnell
Calming signals:eek:n talking terms with dogs

We use clicker for Alf to tech him tricks :)

How does shapeing work? Alf doesnt like trying more than once, then he gives up, so waiting him out doesnt work. He has to know wath I want..

Don't shoot the dog-Karen Pyro
How to behave so your dog will behave-Dr.Sophia Yin
Two more goo ones to check out.

Shaping is where you reward small steps to the big picture. Here's an example I did with Nola.
What I eventually want her to do: target (paw at) a yogurt lid from a distance.
Steps: look at the lid, click treat. Move towards lid, click treat. Paw on lid, click treat. Ect. Once the dog grasps the concept of each step you raise criteria and move to the next one. It makes the dog think, unlike luring where you're doing the work for your dog.
