Showing???

I have become interested in showing. I was wondering if anybody has tips or hints, any advice? Maybe some particular websites to check out? We've decided to give it a try. Unfortunately not with Nemo. I was told his bite would be considered a serious fault.

Only to add to that, we have been wanting to get another long haired female. So we're going to try with her. We're so excited. Not only will we try out showing, but who doesn't want another Mini Dachshund running around!?!? :)

Hi, best thing to do is to attend as many shows as you can. Study the handlers as well as the dogs, talk to people, people are always happy to talk if you admire their dogs! when you get your pup socialise her as much as you can, take her to noisy places but hold her to start with so she feels safe and doesn't get scared. Let other people handle her, remember she has to let the judge handle her, look at her teeth everyday, she has to be used to this too. When she is about twelve weeks you can practice getting her to "stand". Remember you can NEVER have too many doxies! hope you find a lovely pup!

There are classes here for dog show handling. Even if the dog is not show worthy in conformation, it is a great place for a pet. They learn to walk on a lead nice, stand nicely on the table (which is excellent at the vet!) and knowing the command 'look at me' is very useful. It's great when you're out and you want them to avoid something, and it's excellent when you want to take portraits. lol

Here's a puppy practicing..

Here's 'look at me' and standing still...

Good luck!

I've been to that kind of classes also and we've even been to one dog-show. I think those classes are excellent! :) The trickiest thing for Manu was standing on the table.

Do you guys have match-shows?

We've already decided on a pup :) The breeder we got nemo from has another litter ready soon, and we're putting the deposit on her this week. My Fiance and I have 2 already.. and rescued a couple pit bulls, and as much as we love them, we are not in love with them like dachshunds. We're going to rehome them, they're finally healthy enough and finally got them UTD on everything. After we find them loving homes, we're going to get the one more dachshund and that will be it (I hope, Lol). She won't be ready for another couple weeks.
