    Inconsistent poop schedule

My puppy is 5 months old now. She is fed 3 times a day, 1/4cup each time. She is fed at 7am, noon, 5pm. When you read online everyone talks about how dogs poop at very consistent times. Not my dog. One day she will poop once the whole day, another day she might poop in the morning...

How to keep dachshund warm at night in crate?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to keep my dachshund warm during the night while she sleeps in her crate. She isn't "cold", but I know she sleeps much better when she is warmer. She doesn't seem to burrow like most dachshunds. So when I put a blanket in her crate she won't burrow...

    Changing dog food

We are using Chicken and Brown Rice Blue Buffalo. Our doxie loves it. We had another Blue Buffalo flavor, can't remember what is was right now, but she didn't like it as much as the chicken. She is teething right now and prefers the Toy Breed size kibble over the Small Dog size kibble.

    New Puppy need advice !

My puppy is 3 months old now, so I'm no expert, but our puppy sounds a lot like yours with her collar. She hated it at first. She would not move or try to bite it or scratch it off. What I did was put it on her for small amounts of time each day, and then gradually increase. The first time I...

    Food, food & more food

That is funny about the worms, my dog does the same thing. I was wondering if it just mine, but I guess not. I'm amazed at how she can sniff those things out.

    Where should puppy sleep?

For those who have their dog sleep in a crate at night, do you put toys in the crate even at night? Or do you only have toys in crate during the day if you have to crate?

Leave chews out or pick up?

Just wondering what is best to do or if it matters. Should I leave things like a bully stick out all the time for my puppy to chew on or only give it to her for a limited time and then take away? She has toys and nylabone stuff out all the time, just wondering about things like a bully stick?

    Walking on leash

My puppy is 3 months old now. Things are going well, but I can't seem to figure out how to get her to walk around the neighborhood on the leash. In the yard I have her on a very long and light weight cord and i just let her roam and sniff as she wants in the yard. My yard is 2 acres and...

When to adjust puppy potty schedule?

She doesn't really give any indication she needs to go out, but I don't really give her opportunity either. I take her out so regularly that I don't think she really has a chance to tell me. My thinking now is to keep doing this until she is 3 months, just to keep from having accidents in...

    Puppy won't poop outside

Does anyone have any opinions on this, or does it just depend and do whatever works best for my dog? Right now i have a pen set up outside where I want her to go potty. So when I take her out to potty I put her in the pen. Not sure if she needs a bigger potty area than that. Or is it better...

Ok, cool. Never had a puppy before and I'm nervous about doing things right and not creating problems. I'll just enjoy the time.

When to adjust puppy potty schedule?

Hi all, Another question. (Thanks for all the help I've gotten on this forum) When do I start adjusting my puppy's potty schedule? Right now I am taking her out to potty at every transition, wake up from nap, after play, after eating, before nap, etc. It works out to about every hour...

Spending to much time with puppy?

The concern isn't really about her being left in her crate at times when we leave. My concern is more about when we are in the same room, she seems to need interaction. If we aren't paying attention to her, she will stare at us and whine. We sit on the floor in the kitchen and play with her...

Spending to much time with puppy?

Just wondering if I am spending to much time with my 9 week old puppy. Is that possible? My fear is having a dog that always needs human interaction all the time. Someone right next to it, petting, playing constantly while it's awake. My aunt has a dog like that and it's really annoying...

    Puppy won't poop outside

Another update. Last night went really well. Exercised her pretty good in the evening. She is peeing and pooping in the potty area outside. I've noticed that if she has to much energy then she won't really focus on potty when I put her in the potty area, but if I have been exercising her a...

    Puppy won't poop outside

Just an update. We used the crate with the potty area in it last night. She did really well. I was able to get her to poop outside after her dinner and she peed many times before bed. We went to bed at 10pm, she slept until 4am. She started whinning and I wasn't sure if she was just ready...

    Puppy won't poop outside

Great i'll give it a try tonight. I also think part of the problem is that sometimes I just not waiting long enough for her to poop. She is definitely not a dog that gets down to business. she will pee right away, but poop might be 15 minutes later. She is a really sweet cream colored short...

    Puppy won't poop outside

What about this idea? I have this crate that has a divider with a hole in it. So it is designed to set up a small bed area and then the other side is the potty area with a potty pad. So I could use that as its night time crate, and then do regular outside potty training during the day, so it...

    Puppy won't poop outside

Ok, now a new problem to solve. She keeps pooping in her crate at night. The crate she used last night was brand new, just bought it. It is very small, just big enough for her to turn and lay down, so there isn't a bathroom area, it's not big enough. If she poops and pees she basically has...

    Puppy won't poop outside

I really appreciate all your help. Another update, she finally went poop outside. It was 2 hours after dinner. So I'm feeling better about everything. She will now pee and poop outside, so that is good. She peed first and I gave a small praise and about 5 minutes later she pooped so she...
