    Burglar in "Doghouse"

I had to laugh when I read this article this morning: Burglary call puts pet in doghouse Scroll down past the photo to read the whole article. Sounds like something Frank is capable of doing.

    Heartworm - Monthly Treatment?

Our first dog was a rescued female mutt that my boys named Spike. Our first vet never spoke to us about heartworms, or heartworm prevention. Our second vet diagnosed the heartworms at a pretty advanced stage. Spike died as a result of the treatment, but would have died eventually, anyway as...

    Flying Doxies!

I found this in Scientific American: Why do dogs get blue, not red, eyes in flash photos?: Scientific American They say it has to do with a layer of cells behind the retina that enhances their ability to see at night, and that the age of the animal, as well as the color of the coat...

    Other Mini Grooming ...

The comment of fur trimming and nails prompted this post. We take our dogs to the vet every 6 weeks or so for Anal gland expression and nail trimming. We've had three short hairs, a Standard, a Tweenie, and now a Minnie. All of them have needed help expressing themselves. We didn't...

    Yogurt for doxies?

I finally remembered to ask the vet, and was given the go-ahead for yogurt. I eat the yogurt, then cut the container in half and let each dog have a half. They love it, and usually give the container back when its been licked clean.

Harness or collar for a Houdini

I've had two Houdini Dachshunds. The harnes works better than the collar, but you need to learn technique. They get out once they learn they can face you, duck their heads, and pull back. You've got to be quick and keep slack in the leash, or else they'll escape. I've tried a number of...

    Off-leash Question

In my experience, I've had to build a fence. Or leave the car door open, the dogs will always run to the car!

    How does your dachs travel?

Ours usually nap when we travel long distances. For short distances, we get the nose art thing going. They start getting excited when we approach places they've been before, like the vets, or home. Its fun to watch when they sit up in unison and move their noses toward the A/C vents as we...
