    Injured Dachshund....Advice please

Yes it's better if he could relax in his crate. Please go to dodgerslist and chat with folks who have a lot of experience with dealing with this. Please keep your vet updated with what is going on. They may have some helpful advice. Edit: We posted at the same time. Do not have him up on the...

Does your doxie have a back injury?

He can recover from a wobbly back end but he does have to have a full 8 weeks crate rest. It's a waiting game. If he still has bowel and bladder control, that's very good. Try to keep him comfortable and remember that he can further injure himself, which is why the crate is so important. If you...

    Injured Dachshund....Advice please

Yes, he can recover! Use a spare leash or a scarf to support the back end. Cut back his food a bit so he doesn't put on extra weight while on crate rest. What's the pain med he's on? Some pain meds must be given with food.

    Injured Dachshund....Advice please

He likely should have been crated from the first symptoms. Carry out to potty, use a sling for the back end, carry back to crate. If going to the vet, ride in a crate. Please go to dodgerslist for support. Keep us posted.

Does your doxie have a back injury?

Please see the vet and get the correct meds. They must be anti-inflammatories. And the sooner the better. Wobbly back legs is considered an emergency. Please get her in somewhere. There are many people who have seen a full recovery but the doxie needs time to heal. It will take weeks, not...

Breeding Question: Double Dapple + Piebald

Looking at the ear photos, the red does not look as solid as it would look on a solid red dog. I'd be very suspicious that she is also a dapple. There are 2 things working against you. 1) She has a lot of white so you can't see what the red would look like and 2) you do not know her lineage and...

Adopted Dachshund - Housetraining and Crate Training HELP!!

I leave water and a kong and a tire for chewing but they don't really have an interest in chewing while I'm away. The kong and tire are always in the place they were left. Dachshunds are bred to hunt. Long ago I started my first dachshund to hunt indoors. I would show him a ball, put it behind...

Adopted Dachshund - Housetraining and Crate Training HELP!!

Hi and Welcome from Canada! Thank you for adopting an adult! It does take time for a new fella to settle in and get used to the routine. Try to be patient, although I totally understand your frustration. Can you give him exercise in the morning first, then feed him? I usually do that with...

Breeding Question: Double Dapple + Piebald

It's hard to say from the photos because I can't see the ears on the red pie very well and she doesn't have much red on her. Can you see if there's any dappling on her ears or any where else that have red?

Breeding Question: Double Dapple + Piebald

Thank you for asking before going ahead with the breeding. You didn't post any photos of the dogs in question and you asked for color combinations without saying what color the double dapple male was. Unless you know the pedigree of the dogs you won't know what they are carrying in regard to...

    Puppy while at work

Out of the 4 doxies we adopted from a show breeder, the breeder said to bring the dog back if there was a problem. They insisted on it. Gives you some peace of mind when trying it out. I think reputable rescues will as well but they really do look for a home that is the best fit for the dog...

    Puppy while at work

At least show breeders are invested in making sure their dog will walk on a leash and be exposed to all sizes of dogs and have people handle them. My favorite command that they will know is 'look at me', which keeps their attention on you when out for walks and there's something they need to...
