    Good High Value Treats

I follow a blog called Dachshund Nola. Nola's mom uses all homemade food except for her treats. Here is a list of the commercial treats she suggests. I've also used carrots (regular not baby sized) that I cut up into pieces as training treats. Carrots are healthy for dogs and they always...

how do you leave your dog when you (and your SO) leave for work?

Very interesting laws in Sweden! I really enjoy hearing about the differences. We have crate trained our mini. He stays in a crate while we are gone. We are very fortunate right now though. The longest he is alone is 3 hours. My hubby can work from home most of the time, so we don't have...

    Cuddle spot

Aww!! :D Yosuke does that with me too. It makes a little sound when I close my laptop and he gets all excited!

    Dog carrier

I have an a-typical crate for my little guy. I got a "medium" sized on for him, up to 20 pound dogs. He loves it and actually chose it himself at the store. We have tried other crates in the past for our other little guy, just a mesh black one for in the car, and it never seemed to work well...

    8 week old puppy humping..

My puppy did that too at only 9 weeks old. The vet told me it is normal (especially because he is a male) for them to hump when they are excited or just not sure how to show their happiness yet, especially at that age. He said if it continued past 5 months then we could consider it being early...

    Cuddle spot

Yosuke LOVES to cuddle with me. He's the most cuddle little dachshund I have ever encountered. His favorite spot is on my neck/back when I lay on the couch. I have so many pics of me and him on the couch with his head next to mine. Best part is he's a little space heater so I don't need a...

how to tell a good breeder

The first breeder I dealt with was terrible... and I didn't know until I had already adopted a gorgeous little male doxie. She bred for the profits and wasn't very careful. She liked to breed with another breeder's sires, but typically used her own sires. The litter I got a puppy from she...

    Why are Dachshunds considered dangerous?

I was actually attacked as a child by three black and tan short hair doxies. I disliked the breed for years until I realized not all of them are mean. They have a tendency to be possessive of their owners and area. Since I was little I have yet to meet another mean one, so I think it is less...

What kind of dachshund related stuff do YOU have?

Hm... bracelet, mini wind chime with crystal doxie, umbrella for rainy dog walks, statues, picture frame, and cookie cutters. :)

    How often is TOO often?

Took him to the vet yesterday for shots and asked about UTIs as well. They did a full exam on him including a urine test and said he's ok. :) The vet said it is probably just because he has water all the time and his bladder is so tiny. He has gotten a bit better, now up to 3 hours between...

    Bedazzle your Dachshund

lol! So cute. I bet she just sat there and took it too. "I have enough spots. Do I really need more?" My puppy found my Santa hat and decided he was going to play with it. I told him if he was going to play with it, he had to wear it. I took a pic but it turned out too dark.

    Watery eyes/"crying"

Yosuke's eyes are watery, always clear and never mucous-y. They look almost like he has been crying all the time. The vet said it may or may not go away after he gets older, just depends. She said his eyelids are just too big for his eyes right now and they sometimes fold over and cause his...

    How often is TOO often?

yay! glad he isn't strange. :) We definitely take him out whenever he paces, sprints like crazy (his biggest tell) or just every two to three hours. He's picking it up okay for being so young. He does have an auto-water bowl because he shares a water dish with our cat, so yes he does have...

    How often is TOO often?

So I have a male mini who is only 4 mo. old and only weighs 5 pounds. He needs to be taken out every two hours or he will have an accident. According to our training tips for doxies (from our breeder), for every month old he is until 5 mo. old there should be that many hours between trips...

    Hello from Kentucky!

Thank you both! :D He's very sweet. Both of your babies are adorable too! I love the darker brown and chocolate/black doxies. They are gorgeous!

    Hello from Kentucky!

Such a sweet name! :D I agree, names with meanings are much more fun. Yosuke got his name for almost the exact same reason. We just lost our first dachshund on Feb. 14 to a very rare disease. Yosuke has been our helper in getting over the heartbreak.

    Long-haired fur question...

I've had two longhaired doxies now. When they are under 1 year old, their coat length will vary in places the most. My first one had a faux hawk as we called it until he was three (extra long fur on his head). Their paws, ears, tail and legs seem to grow the fastest while their back, belly...

    Hello from Kentucky!

    Hello from Kentucky!

Hello everyone! My name is Hilary (aka: HilyBee). I have a mini longhaired English cream dachshund named Yosuke (yo-skay). He is only 3 months old. :) He is the second dachshund we have ever had, and we absolutely love the breed. We live in Louisville, KY with our cat Sera and my hubby...
